The signing of the East African Common Market protocal by member states in November 2009 was aimed at establishing a regional common Market that will enhance.

Free movement of goods and services within the region
Free movement of persons and labour within the region
Free movement of capital as well as establishing many other areas of cooperation between the member states.

There are certain rules and guidelines that govern the implementation of the common market protocol. These rules and guidelines are contained in such policy documents as the:

Protocal on the establishment of the East African community common market

Rights of establishment and Residence
Many other General provisions governing the implementation of the common market protocal.

The inaugration of the East African Common Market has to a large extent expanded the labour market in the region and new work opportunities have emerged.
